Therapy Services

for Neurodiverse Families

Navigating the beauty and challenges of neurodiversity to foster understanding and harmony for your family.

Parent Consultation

Parent consultations are tailored for families with neurodiverse children. These sessions provide a supportive space to help you understand your child's unique brain and behaviors. Together, we’ll explore strategies to strengthen relationships, reduce tension, and create effective plans that ensure every family member feels valued and understood. You'll leave with practical tools and insights to foster a more harmonious family environment.

For parents of children with Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA), consultations provide specialized guidance in understanding your child’s unique brain and nervous system. We’ll explore compassionate, low-demand approaches that can help reduce confrontations and improve cooperation. These sessions will also offer you personalized strategies to manage the daily challenges of PDA while prioritizing your own well-being. Together, we’ll work towards creating a more peaceful home environment that respects your child’s need for autonomy while maintaining healthy family dynamics.

Adult Therapy

I provide individual therapy for adults, often focusing on parents navigating the complexities of raising neurodiverse children. This supportive space encourages self-exploration, helping you cultivate self-understanding and acceptance. We’ll work together to address emotional challenges, improve coping skills, and foster personal growth, empowering you to lead a fulfilling life.

Child and Teen Therapy

I offer individual therapy for neurodivergent children and teens, creating a safe and supportive environment where they can explore their unique experiences. Together, we focus on enhancing self-awareness and emotional regulation, while also addressing specific challenges such as anxiety, self-esteem, or sensory differences. Through personalized approaches, we work to empower your child or teen to build confidence, resilience, and a greater sense of self-understanding, helping them thrive in school, relationships, and life.

Currently, I do not have any after-school openings and am not accepting new child or teen clients at this time.

MY APPROACH

Neurodiverse families experience unique challenges.

Balancing the needs of each family member can feel overwhelming—especially when your priority is to support a child who might be struggling. It might seem like the obstacles are insurmountable, and many professionals may not offer the guidance you need.

I understand the complexities of raising a neurodiverse child and the difficulty of finding effective solutions. My approach is to work closely with you to address your child’s individual needs while also considering the well-being of the entire family. Together, we’ll focus on improving relationships, building self-esteem, reducing anxiety, and fostering independence.

With my education, training, and experience, combined with your deep understanding of your family, we can create a path toward greater peace and fulfillment. Let’s work together to find solutions that truly make a difference.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Certified SPACE Provider

Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE) is a parent-based intervention designed to help children and adolescents struggling with anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and related challenges. Developed by Dr. Eli Lebowitz at the Yale Child Study Center, SPACE has been extensively researched and proven effective in clinical trials.

As a Certified SPACE Provider, I have completed advanced training in SPACE treatment, including working closely with experienced SPACE supervisors to treat complex cases. Currently, only a small number of clinicians worldwide have achieved this level of expertise in SPACE therapy.

Emerging research suggests that SPACE is also highly effective for autistic children and teens, individuals with Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID), and young adults facing challenges in their transition to adulthood. In my experience, SPACE offers a respectful, neurodiversity-affirming approach that aligns with the unique needs of these populations, providing meaningful support for both parents and children.

  • SPACE is designed for children and adolescents facing various anxiety issues, including:

    • Separation anxiety

    • Social anxiety

    • Generalized anxiety

    • Specific fears and phobias

    • Panic disorder and agoraphobia

    • Selective mutism

    • Obsessive-compulsive disorder

    • ARFID

    • Young adults struggling with the transition into adulthood

What’s unique about SPACE is that children don’t need to be present during the sessions; instead, parents and caregivers play a central role in the treatment process. Successful implementation of SPACE helps children feel less anxious and improves their overall functioning.

  • During SPACE therapy, parents will acquire valuable skills and strategies to assist their child in managing anxiety and related concerns. The focus is on what parents can change in their own responses rather than expecting immediate changes from the child.

The key components of SPACE include:

    1. Supportive Responses: Parents learn to engage with their anxious child in a more understanding and confidence-building manner, fostering a sense of capability.

    2. Reducing Accommodations: Parents work on gradually decreasing the accommodations they may have provided to alleviate their child’s anxiety symptoms.

By making these adjustments, parents can cultivate a more empowering environment that promotes their child’s independence and coping skills.

Adult Autism Assessments

I offer neurodiversity-affirming autism assessments for adults seeking greater self-understanding. These assessments are particularly beneficial for individuals who may have recently learned about autism through various channels—be it reading, social media, or through the experiences of family members. Many parents also find themselves interested in the diagnostic process after navigating similar assessments with their children.

    • Self-Discovery: Adults seeking validation of their unique lived experiences.

    • Advocacy: Individuals wanting to enhance their ability to advocate for their needs.

    • Community Connection: Those looking to connect with other autistic adults and find like-minded communities.

    • Family Understanding: Parents of autistic children who wish to normalize the autistic experience and provide hope for a positive future.

    • Gain greater self-understanding and validation.

    • Develop skills to advocate effectively for yourself.

    • Connect with others who share similar experiences.

    • Help loved ones better understand how your brain and body work.

  • The assessment process is respectful, collaborative, and neurodiversity-affirming. Final reports will emphasize your strengths and challenges as shared by you, avoiding deficit-based language. Open communication is encouraged; I’m always willing to improve the assessment process with a focus on inclusivity, respect, and accessibility.

    • Complete 3-5 self-report questionnaires.

    • Participate in three virtual sessions lasting 60-90 minutes each.

    • Optionally, an additional session (60-90 minutes) with a loved one can be included.

    • A diagnosis and detailed report will be provided during the final session.

Through this assessment, you’ll receive insights that can guide your journey toward self-acceptance and personal growth, ultimately empowering you to navigate your world with greater confidence.
